BP9_2010034_BusyLissy

There are several web 2.0 tools that are useful in our classrooms today. I have researched quite a few and came across BusyLissy, which gained my interest. BusyLissy is a project management tool that allows small businesses, student groups, sports clubs, ect. to collaborate with each other on projects and build that project online. BusyLissy is also great for organizing files and creating task managers. It allows users to become more organized and kept up-to-date all though the Internet. The use of papers are slowly being eliminated by the constant use of web tools such as BusyLissy.

Setting up an agenda allows everyone to know what is going on and what to expect. We all know the failures of emails and lost papers. Sometimes, it is almost impossible to conduct a meeting at everyone’s convenience. This tool keeps clients, students, employees and athletes aware of the days ahead without a phone call, email, or fax. Just simply log on.

As you build your project, you can leave messages for your other team members, which will create a tread for the entire group to view. Keep it all in one simple place.

Set task for certain group members as the project is being build. And you can keep track of the completed/uncompleted assignments.

Tired of sending attachments with emails to large to open, or it slows your computer’s speed by trying to upload it. BusyLissy organizes your files for you in one place.

This tool can be helpful in a classroom setting. Group work must be encouraged throughout a child’s adolescent. And dealing with generation “m” (media) we as teachers must find better ways to incorporate group work in a more productive manner and have students be interested in doing so. BusyLissy is a great tool to start. Students can use their mobile devices to gain access and complete assignments.

BP5_20100302_Web2.0Tool2_plans.fm

Plans.fm is a wonderful tool to use for organizing your social plans and make it viewable for the public. This tool can be useful in the classroom by creating a "to-do list" for your students or for them to use as a daily planner or a place where they can store all of their homework assignments.

Working with sixth grade, I notice that most of my young children to not remember where they wrote their homework or did not write it at all, or perhaps they have misplaced the sheet of paper the teacher handed to them. Planfm can eliminate the hassle of loose papers, making up stories about why homework wasn't complete. Signing up is easy and useful for children of all ages.

Just being able to search for this site was intriguing enough where it allowed me to explore all the various sites that are useful when conducting research.

Students today, (using plansfm) are equipped to learn in this fashion simply because all of their interest falls within a digital device, where cell phones and ipods are the latest trend. Just assigning homework with the use of these devices can and will engage students to be better thinkers and motivate them into doing schoolwork. Why ask/tell children to put away these devices when they can learn a great deal from them?

Plansfm is a great tool for success dealing with our young people today. In today’s society our children need to be guided with the wonderful media assets, the overwhelming problem with some parents, is that, ipods and cell phones are given to them a mere entertainment and nofile:///Users/briancross/Desktop/Screen%20shot%202010-03-14%20at%209.47.39%20PM.pngt as a learning tool.

bp3_2010031_web2.0Tool1_Thwapr

Thwapr is a Mobil to Mobil Video Sharing web 2.0 tool that can be use in a variety of ways. For educational purposes, we as teacher can learn to educate in the 21st century using 21st devices in this digital world/environment by incorporating them into our classrooms.

As a Science teacher, I found this tool engaging and exciting for my sixth graders. Thwapr allows users to capture live video, store it, and send it to anyone in the world. This application can be useful conducting science experiments, where each student can record his/her science experiment in the comfort of their home and send it to the teacher as a homework assignment.

After the instructor has viewed the video, he/she can show the best five videos in the class, creating a small rivalry between the students, which will also encourage students to complete homework assignments.

All to often we hear about the behavior of our school children. This has mostly stemmed from the lack of evolving with this generation. We tell our children to turn off the cell phones, or don’t bring the ipods or blackberries to school. But with Thwapr, we can capture video at any given moment or upload video that is shared. Of course there are some videos that are for educational purposes and they will be some that will abuse this system, but there is so much more that can obtain and learned from these tools.

Every child want to be a little producer of their own world and what better way to incorporate that skill or desire into our classrooms.

Reasons for blog subscription

I choose five blog subscriptions to follow in regards to my professional development. The first subscription (baby boomer's view) was selected simply to get a perception of the education system from someone from an earlier generation; to see how much it has changed over the last two decades.

Suzanne's Sanctuary: Technology has been the driving force of our way of life for the last decade or so and it only a matter of time before it revolutionizes the education system. I choose this blog to hear other view points on this matter.

Down to Earth Mama: Politics is always a great tool to use to get a idea on what we can expect out government of doing to help shape education.

The Korean: Teaching in a different country is a very unique experience. But what if other school systems are experiencing the same behavioral or drop out issues?

CharlotteObserver.com:Education: Its routine to assume that high school drop out rates are increasing, but getting actual stories from people within the community can be more accurate. We can use this data to find out how other cities are doing in terms of school attendance and find out what it lacking or doing to yield such results.
